Hey, hey! It’s Ryan, again! I really appreciate you for reading this! Don’t miss the next one. Subscribe!

It’s been so long! If you noticed, you’re an absolute saint. Thank you. I’ve been working on some other projects that you will never hear about so that is more of an excuse than a teaser. Anyway, let’s jump right back into some comedy recs!

STAND-UP

Janine Harouni

Janine was just in NY (if you missed it…come on!) performing her critically acclaimed debut Edinburgh show Stand Up with Janine Harouni (Please Remain Seated). I saw her at Union Hall and I’m pretty sure I sat in front of her aunt and uncle who were discussing how comedians also do voiceover work. It was a great experience! She’s based in London, so while you may have to wait to see her live until she comes back to visit her family in Staten Island, you can check out this set from The Russell Howard Hour! She’s hilarious and is going to be a force in the UK (and maybe NY?) comedy scene.

INTERVIEW

Sarah Squirm on High and Mighty: Long Island

SNL! Ever heard of it?!?! Sarah Squirm is a new cast member! Great Neck’s own Sarah Squirm?! That’s right! I recently discovered her through this interview and I’m so excited to see her push the boundaries of what you can do on network television.

Long Island episodes of this podcast are my favorite, not only because it helps me understand why my girlfriend is actively hostile to strangers, but also because Jon Gabrus both embodies and makes fun of all of its insanity.

Look for Sarah Squirm on this coming season of SNL and listen to her reminisce about Long Island!

MORE THINGS TO WATCH

Actual Show in a Place (New York)

HeadGum Live in NYC, October 22-23 - Gramercy Theatre

Check out four of HeadGum’s podcasts all in one place in NYC!! Amazing opportunity to catch some shows that are finally back out on tour. Doughboys and High and Mighty are on the same night so grab tickets to witness Wiger reading the intro like a robot, Mitch forgetting to do the drop, and Gabrus reminding them to be entertaining.

Twitter Giggles (The Internet)

Benny Feldman! He’s super funny and a bunch of his jokes went viral this week. Definitely worth the quick watch!

AFTER-SHOW

Welcome to the after-show! I hope you enjoyed the first one back off the layoff. I think I’m going to change up the format, and very much welcome your feedback.

I may separate monologues into separate emails and make them less formal so that: 1. You will get the recs without the clutter. 2. You can read the monologue email if you’re interested in that type of thing, but ignore it if you’re only here for my hot comedy recs. 3. Shorten up this dang thing.

More changes may be on the way, as well! I want to make things more interactive! I’d be happy to create a Readers’ Recs section so that we can all share our favorite comedy stuff with each other, if there is any interest. It would also help me get a sense of what types of recs people are looking for (live shows, comedians to look out for, new specials that are coming out on streaming platforms, etc.). Also, I did an interview with a comedian a couple months back and would like to do more of that. It would be a fun way of getting you some more exclusive content rather than just what I’ve been into lately.
